Life can be incredibly overwhelming at times. There are difficulties, distractions, and daunting circumstances, but we must not let them get us down. When we feel we are drowning in a sea of disappointments, the Bible is our lifeline that keeps us from drowning. In this we find a fundamental truth to hold on to, that God is good and not just good but GodGreat.
Why is it so important to know and remember that God is great? Because the devil is working overtime to convince us that God is no good, that he does not love us, and that he is untrustworthy, we should abandon our loyalty to him. That's how he beguiled Eva in the garden, but we don't have to fall for thatthe scammer's plans. We can read the Bible for the truth about God and experience the reality of His magnificence in our personal relationship with Him.
One Scripture that reminds me of what is true about God despite the difficulties I face is Psalm 145:3. It may be my absolute favorite verse. But asking me, as a Bible teacher, to pick just one is like asking myself which child I love the most. It's impossible because I appreciate them all.
Psalm 145:3 KJV ~ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and its greatness is inscrutable.
God is great, but what does that mean?
I'm sure you've heard the saying"God is always good, and God is always good."It's a catchy phrase, and it's true, but according to the Bible, God is not justgut, He isGreat!
We define size as:
- Strikingly large
- Notable in extent, grade, or effectiveness
- Outstanding
- Clearly superior
- Excellent skill
Telling someone that God is great shows that they are MASSIVE, EXCEPTIONAL, GREAT AND UNPARALLELED.
There is no one like him!(1 Sam. 2:2, 2 Sam. 7:22, 1 Chr. 17:20, Ps. 86:8, Isa. 46:9, Jer. 10:6-7)
Whether I'm worried about my kids' decisions, depressed aboutmy chronic pain and illnesses, or burned out from ministry, I can remind myself that God is great, which encourages me that He is well able to deal with anything. Thinking about his qualities gives me help and hope in difficult times.
God is great at being God
I love Psalm 145:3 so much because it reminds me of the power, provision, and presence of God that trumps the problems in my life. No matter what comes my way, I can trust what's true about God—that he's great and that he's great at being God.
The world seems out of control, but I know itGod has not given up his throne. Nothing is out of his sight or out of reach. He reigns and reigns, and everything goes according to His divine plan. I just have to trust him.
And you know what? He hasn't disappointed me yet!
Psalm 86:10 KJV ~ For you are great and do wonderful things: You are God alone.
Bible verses in the KJV that tell us that God is great
Psalm 145:3 is not the only Scripture that reveals the greatness of God. Here are a few more Bible verses in the KJV that tell us that God is great.
Deuteronomy 10:17 KJV – For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, a great God, mighty and terrible, who cares not for persons and takes no reward:
2 Samuel 7:22 KJV – Therefore art thou great, O Lord God, for [there is] none like thee, nor [is there any] god besides thee, from all that we have heard with our ears.
2 Chronicles 2:5 KJV – And the house that I build [is] great: for great [is] our God above all gods.
Psalm 48:1 KJV – Great [is] the LORD, and to be praised greatly in the city of our God, [in] the mountain of his holiness.
Psalm 77:13 KJV – Thy way, O God, [is] in the sanctuary: Who [is] a God so great as [our] God?
Jeremiah 32:17-19 KJV – Oh Lord GOD! Behold, you made heaven and earth by your great power and outstretched arm, [and] nothing is too difficult for you: you show kindness to thousands and repay the iniquities of the fathers in the bosom of their children after them: the great, mighty God, the LORD of hosts, his name, great in counsel and mighty in deed; for your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men; according to his ways and the fruit of his works:

Share how great God is!
God is simply indescribable. But still, those of us who know the true nature of God must try to paint the picture of our Creator because society has a highly distorted picture of Him. The devil has subtracted billions from what is true about God and his character and concern for his creation. It is up to us as believers to spread the word of life and proclaim the truth that sets prisoners free.
God is great and to be praised, and His greatness is inscrutable. The gospel shows the greatness of God.His love is great, His mercy is great, His mercy is great, and His plan of salvation is great. Everything about God is great.
He deserves our total devotion, and we prove our love for him by our obedience to his word. (John 14:15) Jesus tells us how he did the man from whom he delivered a legion of demons to go and tell of the great things that God had done for him. (Mark 5:19-20)
We reveal His Majesty by sharing the gospel and sharing our testimonies of how Jesus transformed our lives. So let us invite someone into the intimate knowledge of Christ so that he may experience his excellence for himself.

When you feel like God isn't great
If you are feeling down about your circumstances and finding it difficult to believe that God is good let alone great, pray this prayer with me:
Father God, your word says you are faithful and true, mighty and mighty, and love me, but my circumstances seem to say the opposite. Open my eyes to see your goodness while I mourn, your hand when I perish, your provision for my troubles. Help me to know that you are near and witness your grace and great glory in my life. Give me strong faith and a sober spirit to resist the wiles of the devil. Remind me of your word as I begin to listen to his lies. Keep me from falling away from the faith. In the mighty and matchless name of Christ my King I pray, Amen.
